Wandafonds Dutch Association and its Polish sister Wanda Foundation’s operating.

The goal of our Dutch association Wandafonds and its Polish sister Wanda Poland Foundation (officially Polish Disabled Children Aid Association) is to assist on treatment and rehabilitation of children affected by cerebral palsy within Poland.

Cerebral palsy treatment allows a child to coordinate movement and thereby gives capability to walk.

Our project includes scientific experiences and opinions exchange on treatment of the disease between Polish and Dutch centres, and also on needed equipment purchase.

Subject area deals with odd aspects on diagnosis and treatment:

-          parents participation in recommended therapy at home

-          multi-disciplinary treatment teams cooperation

-          the various methods role:

-                     multi-level botuline toxin treatment combined with intensive rehabilitation

-                     baclofene pumps implantation

-                     proper orthopaedic equipment.

Training and education of Polish orthopaedic technicians in Poland and Denmark is an important element of our operating.

Originator and motor of Wandafounds Association is Ewa Kooyman-Piskorz who is physician anaesthetist of Polish descent, living in Denmark for years.

Wandafonds cooperates with Dutch centres within Denmark – chair of paediatric rehabilitation of VUMC (Free University) in Amsterdam, and Trappenberg rehabilitation centre in Huizen.

Not for long Mrs Ewa Jagiełło entered the Wanda foundation board. She is extremely valuable for her contribution to Children’s with Cerebral Palsy Parents Association as its chairman.

Within Poland we cooperate with rehabilitation centres within Warsaw: Paediatric Rehabilitation Clinic at Child Health Centre, Mazovian Neuropsychiatric Rehabilitation Centre for Youth and Children in Zagórz nearby Warsaw, M. Weiss Rehabilitation Centre at Ożarowska Street and hospital wards at Karol Marcinkowski Hospital in Poznań and 2 Regional Hospital in Rzeszów.

In the centres there are treated children within large part of Poland. Treatment is lead by neurology, neurosurgery, paediatric orthopaedic specialists and orthopaedic technicians.

Last years Wandafonds organized symposiums, trainings and workshops for Polish specialists within both countries.

In 2008 there was a course in Rzeszów dated 17-19 March, where took part Polish and Dutch specialists. There were workshops for doctors and therapists on the subject of diagnosis and therapy, organized by the scientific part. There was also independent session for parents. From 15 till 18 June we are going to organize training and workshops in Zagórz nearby Warsaw.

We try to collect money not only for exchange knowledge and experiences among specialists from Poland and Denmark, but also for purchasing equipment and medicines needed for Polish centres.

As in treatment proper equipment is needed, our foundation bought needed apparatus and equipment for centres. We participate in treatment costs which aren’t covered by insurance partly. From June 2007 up till now foundation has allotted amount 380,969.10 zloty for the purchase of above-mentioned resources.

We help to organize children with cerebral palsy parents association. We bought computer hardware for them to disseminate knowledge about various: medical, sociological, legislative, aspects of cerebral palsy with children. The information is passed by web-site www.nasze-dzieci.net. Bought cameras register children’s rehabilitation. It’s a help not only for specialists treating in centres but also training for parents.
