Summer
camp in Bondyrz
As Association, we always try and do our best to
overcome the stereotypes which deal with the issue of how people
in wheelchairs spend their free time – in this case, the
holidays. That’s why every year we pick a place where we’d like
to organize our summer camp and show our able-bodied peers that
we can have fun too. After last year’s trip to Szczyrk, in the
mountain area, this year we’ve decided to organize the camp
under tents for 18 persons on the wheelchair !!! We went to
visit the Roztocze range and stay for a week in Bondyrz in the
holiday centre of “Step by step” Association, our friends from
Zamość. |
The minute we arrived at our destination, we know that
the weather was not on our side. The rain was pouring down for four
straight days and we have planned to stay there for a week. Despite all
that we were in good spirits.
We learned to play boccia under the watchful eyes of our
coaches – Mr. Darek and Mr. Adam. We have discussed important issues
regarding adulthood with our psychologist.
In Zwierzyniec we visited the Ethnographic Museum and
took a trip to the Echo Lake. We were impressed how Zamość is beautiful
where we met with our tour guides – Mr. P. Pilch, teacher from the
Centre for People with Disabilities in Zamość and his wife Agnieszka,
alternative communication specialist AAC.
We watched a couple of movies in an open air cinema. The
evenings were usually the time when we could talk about everything and
laugh together as we sat by the fire eating roasted sausages and
potatoes. We often talked late into the night and a couple of times till
the early morning.
Our friend Jacek, his dad Jerzy and their friend Paweł
went on a 50km bike trip around Roztocze. We also celebrated our friend
Kuba’s 30th birthday. He’s a real party animal.
We all think that despite the weather, the camp was very
cool and Roztocze is beautiful. It’s possible that we’ll visit it again
at the end of August.
