Ewa Kooyman-Piskorz – 10th laureate of the Friend of Polish Community in the Netherlands Award

Ewa Kooyman-Piskorz – Pole living In the Netherlands, madam president of the Wandafonds Foundation, has recently been awarded with the Friend of Polish Community in the Netherlands Award for the year 2010 for outstanding social work in the Netherlands and many years of work to the benefit of Polish children with spasticity.

Ewa Kooyman-Piskorz is the 10th laureate of this honorable mention established in the year 2000 by the Association of Polish Experts in Holland (STEP).

Ewa Kooyman-Piskorz is a great example for all of us as to how one can organize aid for Poland in the Netherlands in a professional manner, and at the same time develop close relations between Polish and Dutch citizens”, said Małgorzata Bos-Karczewska, madam president of STEP presenting the laureate with occasional diploma during the annual BBQ held in the Hague on September 11th 2010.

In his congratulatory speech Janusz Stańczyk, ambassador of the Republic of Poland in the Netherlands stressed that the outstanding work and well-deserved honorable mention of madam president Ewa Kooyman-Piskorz will be recorded in the annals of Polish diplomacy.

Ewa Kooyman-Piskorz – Anesthesiologist living in the Netherlands since 1975. In 2002 she has established the Wandafonds Foundation, whose aim is to aid Polish children with cerebral palsy.

The aim of the foundation is to provide help in treatment and rehabilitation of children with cerebral palsy. Since 2003 the Wandafonds Foundation has allotted approximately EUR 350.000 for realization of various projects.

The projects carried out by the Foundation are geared towards tightening cooperation between Polish and Dutch specialists from various medical institutes, exchange of experiences and knowledge in the field of treatment and rehabilitation of children with cerebral palsy. Thanks to the support of the Wandafonds Foundation two new associations for parents of children with cerebral palsy were established in Poland.

The Friend of Polish Community in the Netherlands Award  was established by Association of Polish Experts in Holland – STEP in the year 2000 to honor individuals, both Poles and Dutchmen for outstanding merits for Polish Community in the Netherlands or contributed to the development of relations between Polish and Dutch citizens.

Individuals honored with the Friend of Polish Community in the Netherlands Award in the 2000-2010 period:

1.    Jurek Dudek (2000) – Goalkeeper for Feyenord

2. Jerzy Żmigrodzki (2000) – Director of LOT branch office in Amsterdam.

3.   Zofia Schroten – Czerniejewicz (2001) – Madam President of the „Scena polska w Holandii” Association (Polish Scene In Holland).

4.   Maria  Diduch (2002) – Artist from Arnhem, laureate of Grand Prix awarded by Fabiola, queen of Belgium in 2002.

5.   Grażyna Nowodworska de Laat (2003) – Social work In the field of adoption to facilitate the adoption of Polish children In the Netherlands.

6.     Geertjan Lassche (2004) – Young Dutch journalist and filmmaker, awarded for documentary entitled “ Forgotten Polish heroes from Arnhem”.

7. Father Bartłomiej Małys (2006) –Parish priest of the Polish community parish in Rotterdam and the Hague. Currently parish priest of the St. Faustina’s parish in Meterik.

8.   Erik Van Tilbeurgh (2008) – Dutch enthusiast of the history of the 1st Independent Parachute Brigade and its commander, general Sosabowski, awarded for his contribution in restoring the memory and honor to the general’s name in the Netherlands.

9.   Professor Krzysztof Skubiszewski † (2009) – In the 1989 – 1993 period held the Office of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland. He lived in the Hague in the 1993 – 2010 period.

10.Ewa Kooyman-Piskorz (2010) - Anesthesiologist living in the Netherlands since 1975. Madam President of the Wandafonds Foundation. Foundation for the Benefit of Polish Children with Cerebral Palsy.
