Exchange with Polish Youth

I am Erik and I am 25 years old.

During my birth I had a cerebral hemorrhage which caused my spastics.

I have had the honor to hang out with Polish youngsters with Cerebral Palsy for a week. It may sound strange but I immediately felt very familiar with the group and their companions.

The theme of this special week was "dreaming".

We talked a lot about dreaming.

I especially liked the fact that everybody was very open during the conversations and discussions.

The thing that really got to me was the fact that Polish youngsters who are disabled have to fight so hard for their freedom. After that I realized that in the Netherlands everything is much better taken care of for people with a disability.

In the Netherlands not everything is perfectly organized but so much better then in Poland.

Anyway, I do believe that things can change for you in Poland.

We had a lot of fun on the boat (in Amsterdam) and in the evening in the hotel and singing in a taxi. Sometimes it looked like a madhouse.

The women had a day of shopping in Amsterdam and the men went watching football at Feyenoord (Rotterdam football team) one day.

And sometimes we learned Polish words like "pasek" (=bar) and "dobre" (=good).

Most of all you get to know people with whom you build a special relationship.

Well, I am going to finish now,

I love you all!

Keep fighting for your dreams. Search for your freedom and everything will turn out fine some day.

I promise I will visit Poland soon.

Greetings,

Erik.
